Are you looking for a way to bring the Catholic saints to life for your students in a fun, hands-on, and unforgettable way? Teaching about the saints—especially around All Saints’ Day—can be such a meaningful experience. But sometimes, students tune out when faced with too many facts or long biographies of people they can't relate to. That’s where a little creativity can make all the difference!
Enter the Young Catholic Saints Escape Room—a print-and-go activity designed to engage kids ages 8–13 while deepening their knowledge of faith.
What Is a Catholic Escape Room?
If you’ve ever played an escape room game, you know the excitement of solving puzzles, decoding clues, and working as a team to unlock a mystery. This resource takes that same idea and adapts it for the classroom, youth group, or homeschool setting—with a Catholic twist.
In this escape room, students face a unique challenge: the statues of the saints have been mixed up, and they must work together to restore them to their rightful places. Through a series of nine puzzles, they’ll uncover saint biographies, decode messages, and solve clues that point them toward the truth.
Meet the Young Saints
One of the best parts of this activity is that it introduces kids to saints they can truly relate to—young people who lived courageous, faith-filled lives and joined Jesus in Heaven before they turned 30. The saints included are:
-
St. Joan of Arc
-
St. Carlo Acutis
-
St. Kateri Tekakwitha
-
St. Pier Giorgio Frassati
St. Elizabeth of Hungary
St. Lucy
St. Aloysius Gonzaga
St. Dominic Savio
St. Agnes of Rome
…young saints who inspire kids with their holiness, courage, and perseverance.
By the end of the activity, students not only solve the mystery but also walk away with a deeper appreciation for these young role models.
Why Teachers and Catechists Love It

FAQs about Catholic Escape rooms…
- What ages is this for?
This has been tested for ages 8-13. Younger and older students could definitely do it, it just might adjust the amount of time it takes to complete.
- How long does it take to complete?
Test groups finished between 45 minutes and an hour. Length of time will really depend on how long you as the adult wait before you jump in and give a hint on how to solve the puzzle. I recommend letting them try and struggle on their own for a bit so they can really work on critical thinking, problem solving, and resiliency.
It also depends on if students are working individually or as a team on this and how long it takes them to read through the saint biographies before starting.
You could set a timer for 60 minutes and see if they can beat it. Or if you want them to complete all of the puzzles, just have them work on it until finished without a timer.
- What do I need to get ready?
Since this is a printable escape room, no props or prep work is needed. You will print out each of the 9 puzzles (just one for the entire class), a set of the saint biographies for each group to read together, and then a recording sheet for each student. They will do their work on this so that no writing happens on the puzzles and they can be reused.
I list an optional purchase of a 4 digit programmable lock found for less than $10 on Amazon. It is not required, but it added an extra element of fun when my daughter and nephews got to actually enter their final code into the lock to see if it would pop open.
- Is this for parents or teachers?
Both! This can be done at home as a family or can be done in a classroom setting. Also works for youth groups, homeschool co-ops, religious education classes and so much more!
- What knowledge do my kids need to complete this?
These puzzles are a combination of critical thinking puzzles, basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication) and information about the saints. Knowledge of the saints might help them solve the puzzles faster but is not required and much of it is provided in the puzzles and biographies.
