I love that I can use these puzzles with both of my daughters - a preschooler and a first grader. For preschool aged students, pull out the numbers you want them to work on and mix them up.

Have students count the circles and find the number that matches. Then they will check to make sure those pieces fit together as a way to check their counting. If you have a preschooler who is ready for more challenging numbers, pull those out. Numbers 1-20 are included in the free download.

For my preschooler, I would work on counting each circle and identifying how many there are all together. Then we would search for the numeral to match that amount. So as not to overwhelm her, I would only work on numbers 1-10 at one time. Depending on your preschooler's ability, you can adjust how many puzzle pieces they have in front of them.

When my oldest daughter was in kindergarten, they worked with ten frames extensively. It was a way for them to practice subitizing (automatically recognizing how many without needing to count.) It also was a way to start practicing adding and subtracting numbers within 10.

Now as a first grader, these would still make a great review. She tends to switch around her teen numbers, so this would be a great way to review those numbers. With her I would focus on her just looking at the ten frame and identifying the numbers - no counting each circle to find the total.
