We are working hard on learning our letters and matching upper and lowercase letters. We decided to have some alphabet fun with a monster theme. Feed the monster is a simple game where students will feed the lowercase letters to the matching uppercase monster. It is easy to prep and easy to play. You can pull out just certain letters or provide less "food" to make the game a little easier. For the ultimate challenge, give them all of the monster letters A-Z and all of the matching pieces of food and have them match it all up.

For our first time playing this game, I pulled out just the letters that we've been practicing over the past few weeks in our weekly letter of the alphabet study. Then I pulled just a few "pieces of food" for each letter.

I showed my daughter how to take a piece of the food (lowercase letters) and find the uppercase version that matches. Then she put the food in the monster's mouth.

She repeated this for all of the lowercase letters getting stuck on the letters where the uppercase and the lowercase look very different like the letter G.

Not only is this good practice to match upper and lowercase letters, but it is also good to practice reading different fonts since children will be exposed to a variety of fonts in the world around them. It is important for them to be able to read the letter and not get tricked by the font style.
