Mother Teresa gifted us with so many incredible and relatable quotes, so I couldn’t help but take one and turn it into a bulletin board idea. Students will make 3-D pencils with their names on it to add to the board around the quote from Mother Teresa, “I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God, who is sending a love letter to the world.”
You can also extend this idea so that the bulletin board acts as a display for student work and students can write about the quote, what it means to them, how they are spreading God’s love in their own lives, how they are acting as God’s pencil, etc.
Supplies Needed:
- White cardstock
- FREE pencil printable (see the bottom of this post)
- Scissors
- Stapler
- Black marker
- Yellow, Pink and Silver paint, crayons, markers or colored pencils
- FREE Mother Teresa Quote (see the bottom of this post)
To Prepare:
Print out the pencil template on white card stock.
Color the pencil using paint, colored pencils, crayons or markers. For my bright colors, I used Kwik Stix, which are quick drying tempera paint sticks, but any coloring tool will work.
Use the black marker to color the tip of the pencil and write the students’ names right in the center.
Cut along the dotted line.
Roll the pencil up and staple the edges. This will be on the back of the bulletin board so you won’t see it, but you can still use tape or glue if you’d prefer.
Print out the Mother Teresa quote and hang it on the bulletin board. Spread out the student pencils on the bulletin board.
Ideas for Differentiation:
Younger Students
- Use this as a display board for their work. Under each pencil, leave a space to hang up each child’s work.
- Have students write or draw (and then display by their pencil) how they are showing God’s love in our world that needs it so desperately.
Older Students
- Have students write or draw about what God is using them for in this world. How are they being pencils in God’s hand?
- Hang up their writing underneath their name pencil on the bulletin board.
