Pirate Counting I Spy

We've been having fun with all things pirates this week!  We read through a stack of Pirate Picture Books. Then we worked on some counting practice with X Marks the Spot Counting Puzzles. Next up was some Pirate Counting I Spy Cards. We grabbed the neighbor and some pirate costumes for fun and then practiced our counting skills.

These I Spy Cards have teeny tiny pirate themed pictures on them.  My initial plan was to use magnifying glasses for the kids to zoom into the pictures and then count the objects and write the number in the boxes. But as the kids were running through the backyard with the spyglasses from our swing set, I had an idea to let them try those. Unfortunately, our spyglasses didn't magnify at all. The kids didn't even care. With their excellent kid vision they could still see the tiny pictures.

My little one still opted for the magnifying glass and practiced counting with the big kids. She can only write the number 0 so she wrote that in every box.  Haha!

My oldest quickly worked on counting without the help of her spyglass or magnifying glass.

To use the cards you count the total number of the objects that match the pictures at the bottom. So for example, count all of the pirate ships and then write that answer in the box next to the pirate ship at the bottom. Then move on to the next shape until you've counted all the objects on the page.

And A + to the neighbors for having some awesome pirate costumes to make our counting practice even more fun!

I've made the Pirate I Spy Counting cards a freebie for you. There are four different cards and then two different levels - so 8 cards total. The second set of cards is for children who need practice counting numbers that go above 10. Because the cards look similar, you can easily differentiate between your students without them even knowing the difference.  In the form below, enter your information and your counting cards will be emailed directly to you.
